Is it possible to park for free in Saint-Malo?
On paper, yes, it is possible to park for free in Saint-Malo. However, there are few free spots, they are not in the immediate vicinity of the old town, and they are often taken quickly!
First, note that parking is free in Saint-Malo Intra-Muros every Sunday from November to March.
Otherwise, you can park for free at the Rocabey Car Park, located near the train station. From there, it will take about twenty minutes to reach the old town on foot.

Parking in the Rochebonne district is also free. However, you should expect a 30 to 40-minute walk to reach the old town.
The different options for parking in Saint-Malo
I will present the 4 possible options for parking near Saint-Malo Intra-Muros: in the old town, in enclosed outdoor car parks, in the underground car park, or at the Paul Féval car park.
Regardless of the car park you choose, please note that they follow this schedule for their rates:
| Low Season Nov 12 to March 31 | Mid Season April 1 to June 30 Sept 1 to Nov 11 | High Season July 1 to Aug 31 |

The biggest headache: parking in Saint-Malo Intra-Muros
Let’s be clear, this is something I do not recommend. The old town of Saint-Malo can be a real maze when you don’t know it. If you come off-season, you can try to enter if you really need to get as close as possible. But believe me, you will be much better off in a car park outside the walls.
Nevertheless, know that it is possible to park intra-muros. These are mostly parallel parking spots in the streets, but there are some diagonal spots as well. Parking is limited to a maximum of 24 hours.
Regarding the rate, you can get 30 minutes free per half-day if you register online beforehand.
Here are the rates for the 2025 – 2026 season:
| Low Season (Nov to March) 9am-12pm // 2pm-7pm (except Sundays and holidays) | Mid Season (April to June; Sept-Oct) 9am-12pm // 2pm-7pm | High Season (July – August) 9am – 8pm | |
| 2h | 2.10€ | 3.60€ | 4.50€ |

💰 Rates range from 10€ to 28€ for 24 hours, depending on the season.

Most cost-effective: parking in outdoor enclosed car parks
This is the solution I recommend the most. What I call outdoor car parks are the ones located along the ramparts, outside the old town.
They are managed by the company Effia but are not guarded. However, they are much cheaper than the underground car park. Additionally, they are free at night and during the lunch break off-season.

There are 12 outdoor car parks around the old town:
- P1: Piscine du Naye
Strangely, P1 is the furthest car park from Saint-Malo Intra-Muros, as it is located on the other side of the lock. Nevertheless, you can reach the old town in 15 minutes on foot from this car park.

- P2: Gare maritime 1
This car park is located in the immediate vicinity of the Saint-Malo ferry terminal, from where ferries depart for the UK and the Channel Islands.

⏳ Maximum 96-hour parking (4 days).

Most expensive: parking in the underground car park
The Saint-Vincent car park is the underground car park of Saint-Malo (P9). It has the advantage of being guarded and being right next to the main entrance of the old town. But it is very expensive!
Be aware that in summer, it can be full. If you wish to park your car there, I advise you to reserve your spot in advance. However, you might still have to queue to enter the car park.
Rates:
| Duration | At all times |
| 1h | 2,70€ |
| 6h | 14,70€ |
| 24h | 40,60€ |
My advice: if you cannot find a spot in the other car parks, you can park for a few hours in the underground car park. Then, at the end of the day, try moving your car to one of the outdoor car parks (spots often free up in the evening).
Quick Summary
🚗 There are 480 spots in this car park.
💰 Rates are fixed and 24 hours of parking will cost you 40.60€.
🔌 There are spots for charging electric cars.
☂️ You can borrow strollers or umbrellas for free at the car park reception if needed.
Cheapest: parking at the Paul Féval car park
To relieve congestion around the old town, a large car park has been made available to travelers 10 minutes from Intra-Muros. This car park can hold nearly 800 vehicles and only costs 3.30€ for 24 hours.

With your parking ticket, you can then take a free shuttle that brings you to the entrance of the old town. This shuttle runs all summer and until early November. It operates from 9am to 10pm, and until midnight in summer. It runs every 20 minutes at most, but frequency increases during peak season.
Outside of this period, line 2 of the bus network is diverted to pass through the car park. Whether you take the shuttle or the bus to reach intra-muros, you do not pay if you present your parking ticket.
It is perfect if you are on a tight budget or if you plan to stay in Saint-Malo for several days and do not need your car.
Quick Summary
🚗 800 spots available.
💰 Parking for 24 hours costs 3.30€ for a car and 7.50€ for a motorhome.
🔌 Charging stations for electric cars are available.
🚎 The Féval Express shuttle and line 2 allow you to reach the old town in 10 minutes for free (max 5 people per ticket) and run at least every 20 minutes. It operates from 9am to 10pm (and until midnight in summer).
🦮 Small dogs carried in arms, as well as guide dogs, are allowed on the shuttle.
Parking a bit further away: Sillon, Station, or Saint-Servan sectors
If you cannot find spots in the previously mentioned car parks, you can try your luck in the city, outside Intra-Muros.

There are some other spots along the Sillon or along the avenue leading to the station. However, be vigilant: near the station, there are parking areas where the duration is limited to 2h30.
The rate for short-term spots rises exponentially regardless of the season. On the other hand, you should know that parking is not paid all day, but this varies by season.
| Short Term | Long Term | |
| 2h | 2,20€ | 1,40€ |
| 2h30 | 25€ | 1,60€ |
| 24h | – | 25€ |
Quick Summary
🚗 Approximately 1,600 spots available.
⏳ Maximum 2h30 or 24-hour parking.
🤩 You can benefit from 30 free minutes per half-day if you register online beforehand.
Parking for People with Reduced Mobility (PMR)
There are many disabled parking spots in Saint-Malo. All these parking spots are free.
Nevertheless, you still need to get a ticket and select “PMR.” Without this, the vehicle could be ticketed.
Long-term parking
There is a long-term car park reserved for ferry passengers going to Great Britain and the Channel Islands.
It is an unguarded outdoor car park, but it is under video surveillance and costs 18.40€ per 24 hours.
Watch out for fines!
Do not try to cheat ; it could cost you dearly. Controls are carried out very regularly.
If you do not respect the intended duration (or do not pay at all), you could have to pay a fine of 25€ (or 17€ if you pay within 72 hours) in low and mid-season. In high season, the fine rises to 45€ (or 35€ if you pay within 72 hours).
My tips for easy parking in Saint-Malo
Parking in Saint-Malo can quickly become a headache. So here are some tips based on my experience 🙂
Arrive early (or late)
If you have the chance, arrive early in the morning, before 10am, especially in high season. The best spots go fast! Or conversely, if you are staying in Saint-Malo, aim for an arrival at the end of the day, around 7pm, when spots start to free up.
If you have no other options, you can try parking for a few hours in the Saint-Vincent car park (underground), then moving your car in the evening to cheaper car parks.
Do not enter the old town
I understand the desire to be as close as possible. But believe me, it will be much easier if you avoid the labyrinth that intra-muros can be. Moreover, many streets are closed when it’s crowded, so your GPS will be completely lost!
Prioritize the Paul Féval car park
Admittedly, it is a bit further. But you will save money and a serious headache if there is a crowd in Saint-Malo. On holiday weekends, there can be major traffic jams arriving at the old town, and you could spend more time covering the last 500 yards than it takes to take the shuttle from Paul Féval!
Check the indicator signs
As you arrive in Saint-Malo, electronic signs show the number of remaining spots in the car parks. If you see only a dozen spots intra-muros, there is no point in trying to get closer. Go directly to Paul Féval; it will be simpler.
Think about the locks
There are 2 locks near Saint-Malo Intra-Muros. When they open, it can cause major traffic jams and therefore lengthen the time to reach the city. Remember to anticipate and take the right road by checking the lock times.
There you have it — I have tried to group all the information to help you park in Saint-Malo. There are different types of car parks and therefore different prices. This also varies greatly depending on the season.
